A NEW SPECIAL ISSUE OF CORPORATE OWNERSHIP & CONTROL JOURNAL:
CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN ITALY

                                                                                Dear readers!

We have a pleasure to announce a new, innovative idea we are going to develop in our journal Corporate Ownership and Control. Each year we assume responsibility to publish a special issue (not just a section in one of issues, but the whole issue) of the journal on corporate governance in a particular country. That issue will consist of 10-12 papers and this could be a very remarkable contribution to development of corporate governance in a particular country through facilitating an active discourse both at the national and international levels. Moreover, we are going to mobilize experts on corporate governance around an idea of academic activism as a factor contributing to development of the best practices of corporate governance.

The first country to devote a special issue of Corporate Ownership and Control journal is Italy. This country is quite unique from the point of view of practices of corporate governance because it is allowed by the national legislation to apply either Anglo-Saxon board model, or Continental, or the national model with the board of auditors as a unique governing body. What is the way of development of corporate governance in Italy from the variety of corporate governance models allowed? What are the prospects of development of the shareholder activism from the point of view of a strong family control and a rooted pyramidal ownership?

We have composed a group of experts who are ready to throw a challenge to these issues. This group of experts consists of more than 15 experts from Italy such as Giovanni Dorio, Damiano Bonardo, Stefano Paleari, Silvio Vismara, Angelo Miglietta, Mario Anaclerio, Cristina Bettinelli, Maurizio La Rocca, Maurizia La Rocca, Stefano Gatti, Enrico Maria Cervellati.

We invite all experts in corporate governance in Italy to submit their papers to us for publishing in a special issue of Corporate Ownership and Control journal. We are going to publish that issue in May 2007. Deadline for submission of the papers – 15 January 2007.
