Short Biography and Research Interests
Benjamin E. Hermalin served as the Economics Department Chair from 2005 - 2008. He holds professorships in both the Economics Department and in Berkeley's Haas School of Business, where he is the Thomas & Alison Schneider Distinguished Professor of Finance. He is a co-editor of the RAND Journal of Economics and also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Economic Literature. Professor Hermalin received his PhD from MIT in 1988, the same year he joined UC Berkeley as assistant professor in the Department of Economics and the School of Business. He became a full professor in 1998. He received the Earl F. Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award in 1991.
